18 True Crime Podcasts to Get You Through a Plague
Boy, have things changed in the three months since my last post!
Even as a generally anxious person—I used to actively avoid leaving Manhattan because of persistent anxiety about getting home should some Batman-esque villain explode the bridges and flood the subway tunnels—I never expected in my wildest anxiety nightmares that, thanks to a global pandemic, I’d start the first Spring of the 2020’s sheltering in place.
I live in the state with the highest concentration of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, and it kind of feels like the world is ending. I haven’t left my apartment since last Monday. By the upcoming Monday, all non-essential businesses in New York will shutter in-office operations. The streets are barren. The museums are closed, the subways are empty, and Broadway’s gone dark. I haven’t seen this city fall so wholly on its knees since Hurricane Sandy.
As I try to maintain a semblance of normalcy—and not go out of my fucking mind with boredom—I’m relying on my podcasts now more than ever. And, with schools in all but five U.S. states closed for the foreseeable future and an increasing number of states implementing isolation measures, and I imagine I’m not the only one.
As a data person and a small-time blog owner, I feel a civic duty to continue updating my mega-list of true crime podcasts. As we hunker down in our toilet paper forts, stay tuned for more frequent posts from yours truly.
